The government engagement indicator evaluates the level of engagement of local government entities with the river. The assessment is informed by a review of government master plans as well as interviews with government staff to determine the level of river-related funding and adherence to Best Management Practices.
In order to receive an “A” score, the town, city, or county must:
- Address the river in its master planning documents for both community access and environment.
- Show that river-related funding for access and improvements is budgeted for on an annual basis.
- Ensure that any work done along the river adheres to Best Management Practices that maintain water quality, ecosystem services, and habitat connectivity.
